Wake up and smell the wildflowers! Climb cool mountains and go snowmobiling and skiing in New Mexico's Lincoln National Forest.
The mountains at the Lincoln National Forest draw visitors to enjoy spectacular vistas of sunsets, the Tularosa Basin and the White Sands National Monument. The forest is filled with mountain meadows, and fragrant mixtures of pine, fir, aspen, and oak, as well as wildflowers, and blossoming plants. Everyone will enjoy the great scenic drives in nature and the two Wilderness Areas which offer visitors a close look at Chihuahuan Desert and subalpine forest, as well as unique opportunities for the equestrian and hiker.
Wildlife watching is a-plenty at the Lincoln National Forest and many visitors choose to go caving in the Guadalupe Mountains, where there are ample winter sports opportunities. Go tubing, snowmobiling and cross-county skiing and choose from 2 downhill ski areas located in the forest. The forest houses 12 developed campgrounds, six group camp and picnic grounds, and two day-use picnic areas. Visitors can enjoy sight-seeing, picnicking, hiking, nature study, mountain biking, snowmobiling and more.
The Lincoln National Forest is located in south-central New Mexico and covers over 1.1 million acres, stretching north from Texas past the Capitan Mountains. A portion of the Lincoln sits adjacent to Carlsbad Caverns National Park and White Sands National Monument is located nearby.
