Our Nature Nut Says:

Where to start? The wonders of this remote, border-straddling park are nearly unlimited so a game plan is in order. The Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive leads right up to the Rio Grande and affords spectacular vistas of the Chihuahuan Desert. Start with a visit to Santa Elena Canyon for sweeping views of the nearly never-ending picturesque landscape. Move on to the Pine Canyon Falls and Ernst Tinaja, a natural tinaja holding water all year long.
The park has many amazing hike and bike trails. Keep an eye out for the park's residents - mountain lions, the endangered Mexican Long-nosed Bat, and about 60 different kinds of cacti! After the kayaking, whitewater rafting, bird watching, and horseback riding is over, take in the unforgettable canyon sunset and relax in the bubbling hot springs in the historic district.
