Things to do / Travel Guide

The western Texas and southern New Mexico region boasts four unique and charming zoos.

The 1,100-acre Living Desert Zoo & Gardens State Park provides many exciting activities for visitors including wildlife viewing, hiking, educational programs, zoo camp, and star parties. You'll see birds, wolves, and cacti from around the world as you take in both indoor and outdoor exhibits from the Chihuahuan Desert.

Got a hankering for a sea lion show? Head straight to the El Paso Zoo and your needs will be met. You can also take in elephant-training demonstrations, or just observe animals like endangered Mexican wolves and Spider monkeys.

Over 150 native and exotic animals and birds are on display at the Spring River Park and Zoo, which features a Children's Zoo area as well as a Prairie Dog Town.

Another charming zoo, Alameda Park Zoo, boasts over 90 different species and nearly 300 animals spread out over seven acres of city park that includes a shaded picnic area. This is a place to come with the entire family - there's something here for everyone.
