Things to do / Travel Guide

Situated in the Chihuahuan desert, western Texas and southern New Mexico generally has very low humidity and is quite sunny (on average over 300 days a year!). Notably, some harsh conditions are occasionally brought about in the springtime by the strong southwesterly gales and windstorms coming into the region from Mexico and southern Arizona. If you're planning a visit to the region, weather-wise it's best to aim for the fall, when atmospheric conditions are at their most stable: sunny, dry, and warm.

Winters are dry and mild with brief spells of freezing weather and the potential for occasional light snowfall. Springs enjoy warmer weather, but high-speed and sometimes gale-force winds typically cause harsh conditions like windstorms and sandstorms. The most rain falls in the region over the generally-hot summers, with thunderstorms and lightning storms relatively common occurrences. Summers are hot and rainy with brief but violent lightning storms in the evenings. Falls are comfortable with mild and pleasant weather.
