They are the most-visited waterfalls in the world, no matter how many pictures you have seen, you will still be in awe when you encounter Niagara Falls in person. Dating back just a mere 12,000 years, the three main cataracts that make up Niagara Falls were created by retreating glaciers.
On the American side are the American and Bridal Veil Falls which plunge over 180 feet, on the Canadian side is the broader and more impressive Horseshoe Falls. If you're on the American side of the falls, head towards the Observation Tower to catch the best views. Terrapin Point on Goat Island will provide you and your family with similarly amazing views of Horseshoe Falls.
There are several tours available but the two most popular are the Maid of the Mist boat trip and the Cave of the Winds tour which takes you down to the base of the falls via an elevator on Goat Island. The sheer awesomeness of Niagara Falls speaks for themselves and it's easy to spend a day or two exploring the area from every direction.
