Explore over 30 miles of interconnecting trails that traverse gorges, ravines, pastures and woodlands. The Finger Lakes National Forest encompasses 16,118 acres of outdoor exploring and fun in New York's rich nature.
According to Iroquois legend, the Finger Lakes of west central New York were made by the impression of the hand of the Great Spirit, Manitou. But regardless of how they got here, the Finger Lakes and the National Forest's system of trails are fantastic and let visitors explore and enjoy the forest at close range. Hiking is quite popular here, on trails such as interloken and the Finger Lakes trail, or visitors can enjoy a drive and view the Forest's beautiful landscape and ridgetop topography and open pastures. The whole family can enjoy blueberry picking as well as apples, raspberries and other fruits, which are abundant throughout the Forest. Those who fancy fishing will find fulfillment in the woods, pastures, scrublands and many wildlife ponds here. The wide variety of birds, wildflowers and other living creatures who call Finger Lakes home make for great wildlife watching, and those who wish to camp can choose from three developed campgrounds. In addition, horseback riding and snowmobiling are also popular activities here, making Finger Lakes National Forest an oasis of natural recreation with something for everyone to enjoy!
You can easily find this treasure of nature nestled between Seneca and Cayuga Lakes in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State.
