Somebody come and play today! From time travel to the National Toy Hall of Fame, the Strong Museum is a true celebration of the history of play in the United States and promises a fun-filled day, no matter your age.
Based on the personal collection of Margaret Woodbury Strong, the Strong Museum is a Smithsonian affiliate and home to the National Toy Hall of Fame. It is now the second largest children's museum in the U.S., and the only one dedicated specifically to the study of play. The plethora of cool exhibits include "Can you tell me how to get to Sesame Street?" where kids can play in a piece of the famed show's original set, and "One History Place," where they can dress up and pump water, churn butter, and scrub clothes in the old-fashioned kitchen.
The "Time Lab" is filled with objects from United States' past and present, including sports gear, photos, shoes and clothing. In addition, the National Toy Hall of Fame boasts 36 all-time toy favorites, which everyone will love. There is also a small indoor train ride and a carousel for families to enjoy. If all the playtime has made you hungry, a stop the food court should do the trick, or stop by Bill Gray's Restaurant for a quick bite.
To get here, take a bus to the Midtown Plaza terminal, walk south for about two blocks, past HSBC Plaza and Manhattan Square Park, to the Strong National Museum of Play entrance. Come ready for playtime at the Strong Museum, a dreamland for kids, big and small!
