Admire the world's most comprehensive collection of glass from all cultures spanning the globe! With more than 45,000 glass objects, the Corning Museum of Glass tells about 3,500 years of glassmaking history and celebrates the art and science of this classic material.
The Corning Museum of Glass is located the Finger Lakes region, in one of the most prominent glassmaking towns in America. The Corning galleries explore Near Eastern, Asian, European and American glass and glassmaking from antiquity through today, telling the story of glass creation, from a full-scale model of an Egyptian furnace to the small-scale furnaces that fueled the American Studio Glass movement in the 1960s.
Visitors can explore the science and technology of glass in a hands-on exhibit area, see live narrated glassmaking demonstrations and take "Make Your Own Glass" workshops and group glassmaking experiences, also appropriate for children as young as three-years-old. The Museum is also home to the world's foremost library on the art and history of glassmaking. Should you get hungry while here, the in-house Coffee Bar offers sandwiches, salads, pastries and desserts, or choose the light filled GlassMarket Café, which has a variety of regional specialties and children's meals.
The Corning Museum of Glass is located in the Finger Lakes Wine Country region of New York State, just off exit 46 on I-86. The address is 1 Museum Way, Corning NY 14830, so don't miss this unusual tribute to glass culture.
