Things to do / Travel Guide
The best months to visit northern New York are August and September. In these summer months the cooling lake breezes may bring in fog and low clouds. Mainly, the cooling effect of the lakes serves to decrease the amount of cloudy and stormy weather.
Northern New York's long winters are cold and snowy, with mainly cloudy skies. Springs come late and are chilly and foggy. Summers, on the other hand, are generally sunny and warm, but not too hot, with a low potential for cloudy and stormy weather. Falls are short, with brisk, cool weather and clear, sunny skies. The cold waters of Lakes Erie and Ontario and the late thawing of their ice delays the coming of spring and summer to the region. In the fall the lakes remain warmer than the land and bring about more precipitation, cloudier conditions, and a stronger chance of hail and thunderstorms.
