Romantic Accommodations in Western New York and South Central Ontario
In this region you won't be lacking in excellent lodgings in which to hole up and leave all your worries behind. Deep in New York Wine Country, sitting at the northern tip of Skaneateles Lake, is Mirbeau Inn and Resort. Right here, in upstate New York, you can get the experience of a French country inn, with all the amenities that you would expect. Peaceful is the best description of the place, where you can choose to stay in a romantic cottage with oversized bathrooms and your own fireplace. How cozy!
The village of Skaneateles is populated by lanes of Victorian masterpieces, houses built throughout the 19th century. It's the perfect place to enjoy a small quaint town, and with romantics in mind, bed and breakfasts can be found within. A gem of a bed and breakfast is 1899 Lady of the Lake. Wake up to the sunrise right above the lake - right outside your window. Each room is filled with antiques, and for breakfast, the hostess prepares German pancakes and Belgian waffles.
If you two are city lovers, there are some beautiful bed and breakfasts in Toronto, not far from the city center and plenty of shopping and entertainment opportunities. The Marlay House is fitted with its original stained glass windows and woodwork, and antiques fill out every crevasse. This Edwardian beauty is located in Toronto's Annex neighborhood, and a short venture outside puts you in the vicinity of art boutiques, cafés, and trendy restaurants.
If a great hotel with a view is what you seek to set the stage for a romantic getaway, Toronto's Fairmont Royal York contains a number of beautiful suites overlooking the city lights and the CN Tower - the perfect way to set the mood.
Romantic Dining in Western New York and South Central Ontario
Satiate your senses at one of the region's top restaurants. A good meal at one of Toronto's top restaurants will sway your mood to the right direction. Hand in hand, head to Trevor Kitchen and Bar, for Gothic ambiance. The seafood and poultry entrées are to die for, and you'll proclaim your everlasting love over the desserts: a double banana split with all the toppings. For a different kind of romantic experience, dine in the sky, 1,151 feet up, at 360, the restaurant at the CN Tower.
The Canadian side of Niagara Falls is a glitzy affair, with bright lights and lots of clubs and restaurants. The latter range from the loud to the quiet and romantic. For the romantic, a great place to eat is the Fallsview Rainbow Room Restaurant, on the 10th floor of the Brock Plaza Hotel. You get fantastic views of the falls and of the entire stretch of scenery, while eating Niagara-inspired cuisine including meats and seafood, topped with a superior wine list. The Brock Plaza, by the way, has been a favorite for movie stars and politicians for more than 70 years - incidentally, Marilyn Monroe stayed at the Brock in 1953 while filming her thriller “Niagara.”
Romantic Excursions in Western New York and South Central Ontario
A romantic vacation at Niagara Falls will be remembered a lifetime. There are numerous ways to experience the Falls' majesty, but one of the most romantic, as avowed by millions, is a cruise on the Maid of the Mist. The rush will set your hearts a-palpitating at the sound of 100,000 cubic feet of water falling over the edge every second. And the pervading mist will shield even the most prying eyes.
There are several towers on either side of the Niagara River capable of delivering a dizzying array of vantage points, while one more you and yours shouldn't miss is a walk across the Rainbow Bridge.
The region boasts another star attraction for star-crossed lovers - one of the greatest, if not the greatest, wine countries in the East. You have your pick of any or all of the Finger Lakes wine trails. You'll find boutique after boutique, and the fantastic wine doesn't let up. The Hazlitt 1852 Vineyards and Winery, in particular, has been making wine since 1852. This Seneca Lake winery has won gold medals for its Rieslings and Cabernet Franc. Hazlitt and plenty others specialize in a celebration for the senses, and you can't do better than this when love is in the air.
Whether you go for the scenic country and the wine of the Finger Lakes, or for the rush of water and mist, or for the charming city of Toronto, you're sure to have a good and romantic time – be more in love than when you left, and have vivid and happy memories to boot.
