Airports Near Niagara Falls

In Western New York State, international airports can be found in Buffalo (Buffalo Niagara International Airport - BUF) and Rochester (Great Rochester International Airport - ROC).

Buffalo Niagara is the larger of the two airports and the logical choice for Niagara Falls. Both BUF and ROC have become hosts to several low fare airlines, including JetBlue, AirTran and Southwest. Note that many flights to Buffalo and Rochester are commuter flights. If you prefer traveling on a mainline carrier, check your reservation carefully before booking.


Ontario Airports Near Toronto

Toronto, Ontario has two airports: Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and the Toronto/City Centre Airport, (YTZ). The latter is a regional airport located on the Toronto Islands. Most major airlines service the international airports, airlines that service the Toronto/City Centre Airport include Air Ontario, Trans Capital Airlines, and Grand Aviation.

You can go from the Toronto Pearson International Airport to downtown Toronto and vice-versa by public transit, inter-city buses, or taxis and limousines. Public transit and shuttles leave from all three terminals. Car rentals are also available at the airport. Generally, shuttles and car-rides take between 45 minutes to an hour to get from the airport to downtown Toronto, where all the hotels are.

Toronto, Ontario and Niagara Falls Driving Directions

Major east-west routes across the region include I-90, know as the New York State Thruway (a toll road). Niagara Falls is about 20 minutes off the New York Thruway at Buffalo.

Highways 401 and 2 enter Toronto from the east and west, and the Queen Elizabeth Way enters the city from the west only. To drive from Buffalo, NY to the Canadian border, take I-190 W over the Peace Bridge and into Canada.

From cities outside the region, or for other locations in Ontario, plan to spend a good amount of time in the car. New York City to Buffalo, NY takes six and half hours in the car (approximately 400 miles) and from New York City to Toronto, you'll be driving the approximately 490 miles for more than eight hours. Driving from Pittsburgh, PA to Toronto will take you about five and a half hours (about 320 miles). The drive from Detroit to Toronto takes a little over four hours and is about 230 miles.

Bus to Niagara Falls and Toronto

Greyhound offers bus services to many western New York cities and towns including, Buffalo, Elmira, Geneva, Ithaca, Niagara Falls, Rochester, the U.S.-Canadian border, and West Seneca. In south-central Ontario, Greyhound services both Niagara Falls and Toronto.

Unrelated, to dock a private boat, the Toronto Port Authority provides docking facilities, as well as other services for boaters.

Train to Niagara Falls and Toronto

Amtrak provides train services throughout the region. The Empire Service route travels from New York City to Niagara Falls and Buffalo, New York; the Maple Leaf route travels from New York City to Toronto, Ontario.

An Amtrak train from Syracuse, New York to Niagara Falls, New York will generally take anywhere from three to four hours (depending on the number of stops) and will cost from $60-70 for a roundtrip ticket. To travel from New York City's Penn Station to Niagara Falls, NY on Amtrak, will take from nine to nine and a half hours, and generally costs between $130.00-$140.00 for a round trip ticket.

On Canada's VIA Rail System, a passenger railroad company that provides train services between most Canadian cities, a train ride from Montreal, Quebec to Toronto, Ontario will take between four and a half to five hours. A roundtrip ticket will cost anywhere between $315-$380.
