Things to do / Travel Guide
Pleasure boating is an excellent way to enjoy the western New York and south-central Ontario region. Skaneateles Lake, with its crystal clear water, and the larger Seneca Lake and Cayuga Lake are convenient places to rent boats of all types and sizes and tour their calm waters. Canandaigua Lake and Keuka Lake also have well-developed marinas. Boat rentals are possible as well, and depending on the kind and size of the boat, these generally run to $300-400 per day or $1200-2500 per week. Many of the lakes require boating permits and licenses.
On Skaneateles Lake visitors can also rent a spacious canal boat from Mid-Lakes Navigation and enjoy self-skippered travel up and down the historic Erie Canal. The boats are equipped with a sleeping cabin (and linens), a kitchen and cooking utensils, as well as two bikes that allow you to dock the boat and ride along the canal's roads or explore local towns.
