Our History Buff Says:

Scale Pittsburgh's Mt. Washington by riding antique funicular rail cars up the Duquesne Incline. The Duquesne Incline was established in 1877 as a means for hauling cargo up the mountain. Today, visitors can still ride the original cable cars (check out the ornate woodwork!) and learn about the history of Pittsburgh while taking in fabulous views of the city!

On your ride up, keep your eyes peeled for what USA Weekend Magazine has called the second Most Beautiful View in America, and for turkeys and deer that tend to hang out along the tracks. At the top of the incline you'll find exhibits of old photographs and history of the area, as well as an opportunity to tour the engine room to learn about the mechanics of the incline (you'll need an additional $0.50 for this). There you'll be welcomed to a new viewing platform that allows guests to see the motor, driving gear, and cast iron drum actually pull up the cable cars.

Msn.com ranks the Duquesne Incline as the third Most Romantic Spot in America, so bring your honey up the mountain for some quality bonding time overlooking Pittsburgh's beautiful Golden Triangle. Make reservations for dinner at the top of the mountain and your romantic evening will be a success!

Free parking is available across the bridge from the lower station at the parking lot between West Carson Street and the Ohio River. Hours of operation are Monday through Saturday 5:30am to 12:45am. Roundtrip fares are $4 for adults and $2 for kids. With prices like these, why not bring the whole family up for a fun ride and viewing experience they won't soon forget!
