Our Sports Superfan Says:
One of the newest and most beautiful stadiums in the National Football League sits on the banks of the Ohio River in Pittsburgh. Overlooking the river, out towards the Steel City's skyline, at the stadium's open end, Heinz Field has served as the home of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the University of Pittsburgh Panthers football team since 2001.
The stadium was built to replace Three Rivers Stadium, an ugly multi-use structure with artificial turf that was constructed in the 1970s. Heinz Field has natural grass, although the cold winters in Pittsburgh and the two home teams combine to make the surface extremely rough, especially on kickers. Heinz Field also hosts numerous concerts and assorted soccer games. Inside Heinz Field is the Coca Cola Great Hall, a museum dedicated to the history of football in Pittsburgh, along with interactive exhibits for fans to enjoy.
Located right on "The Point," where the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers converge to form the Ohio River, Heinz Field is accessible via mass transit on Martin Luther King, Jr. East Busway, West Busway, and the T, from the Port Authority park station in downtown Pittsburgh.
