Our Museum Expert Says:

Come see one of the finest dinosaur collections in the world! With over 21 million natural objects and specimens, including the Diplodocus carnegii and the most complete Tyrannosaurus Rex skull known to date, the Carnegie Museum of Natural History will leave you loving nature and coming back for more!

Besides a fantastic dinosaur exhibit which will wow kids and adult alike, the Carnegie Museum of Natural History is home to the sparkling Hillman Hall of Minerals and Gems, the Alcoa Foundation Hall of American Indians, Polar World: Wyckoff Hall of Arctic Life, and much more.

A hallmark of the museum's collections is the Walton Hall of Ancient Egypt, which contains over 2,500 artifacts including ceramic and stone vessels, jewelry, relief fragments and tools. In the Hall of Geology visitors can take a ride on the Stratavator, an elevator ride that takes you down into the Earth below the museum, stopping at the museum's basement storage rooms, a coal mine and a limestone cave. Many sections of the museum also include hands-on activities where children are encouraged to touch, making this a great day for the whole family. Dining options include the Museum Cafe and the Fossil Fuels snack bar, which offers sandwiches, baked goods, fruit, drinks, gourmet coffee and more.

Because of its central location, the museum is easily reached by public transportation -Bus routes 61A, B, and C and 67A, C, E, F and J stop directly in front of the museum on Forbes Avenue; routes 71B, C and D stop one block north of the museum at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and South Craig Street.
