Visit the largest museum in the world dedicated to a single artist, often credited as having been the most influential artist of the 20th century! A trip to the Andy Warhol museum brings visitors face to face with the pop art in many mediums that challenged both traditional fine art and popular culture.
After a successful career as a commercial illustrator, Andy Warhol became famous worldwide for his work as a painter, avant-garde filmmaker, record producer, author and public figure, known for his presence in wildly diverse social circles. Warhol used mass-production techniques to create works, seen in the collection of more than 12,000 works of art which include paintings, drawings, prints, photographs, sculpture, film, and videotapes. One of the most popular permanent exhibits is Silver Clouds, which places visitors in a room filled with silver balloons, propelled around the space by oscillating fans. In the Weekend Factory, people of all ages can create their own Warholian screen tests and art. On Fridays, the museum presents Good Fridays, when you can visit the museum at half the price and catch art lectures and local rock. If hungry, Don't miss the Warhol Café which serves soups, salads, sandwiches, homemade pastries, wines and microbrews. Traveling with kids? Be sure to ask guides to point you in the direction of the most kid-appropriate exhibits.
The Museum is located on the North Shore at Sandusky and General Robinson Streets just across the Andy Warhol Bridge (formerly 7th Street Bridge) from downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Don't miss the opportunity to explore the works of an American icon, and a key piece of American history.
