Weather in Pittsburgh and Southwestern Pennsylvania

Things to do / Travel Guide

Winters in southwestern Pennsylvania are cold, windy, and snowy. These conditions can be attributed to cold weather systems and polar air coming down into the region via Canada. The region thaws out in the warmer temperatures that springs bring, but there's still a good amount of rain falling from the skies. Summers come along with hotter temperatures as well as humidity that, believe it or not, originates in the far-off Gulf of Mexico. Falls bring a respite from the warmer weather, with drier air and mild temperatures.

Temperatures and air conditions are quite pleasant in both the spring and fall, when neither the polar air from the north nor the humidity from the south affect the regional weather patterns too much. Spring, however, often lacks the clear days and sunshine fall has to offer, making the months of October and November the best time to visit weather-wise.
