Southwestern Pennsylvania offers two unique botanical gardens that make the Pittsburgh area a wonderful place to experience horticulture at its finest. A third, the Botanic Garden of Western Pennsylvania is being developed.
- Visitors to Pittsburgh, in any season will enjoy, the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens' near Schenley Park. During the warmer seasons, visit the six outside gardens, including one especially for kids. During the winter or on rainy days, explore the large conservatory – a Victorian masterpiece, with 13 rooms. Enjoy a bit of the tropics in Pittsburgh.
You don't have to be Jewish to visit Pittsburgh's Rodef Shalom Biblical Botanical Garden, but it will help if you bring your bible! A unique garden, designed to recreate the flora of ancient Israel. It's all there and you can follow it chapter/verse – the Dead Sea, the Jordan River and the Sea of Galilee and all in Pittsburgh. Warning – this may leave you longing to visit the real thing – only about 6000 miles to the east.
