Things to do / Travel Guide
Would you like to peer down at southwestern Pennsylvania and the Pittsburgh metro area while freefalling from 15,000 feet at 120 miles per hour? Or would you rather gently soar above Pittsburgh's three rivers from inside the woven basket of a hot air balloon? If you thrive on thrilling adventure and adrenaline highs, get your feet off the ground with a high-altitude skydiving, ballooning, or helicopter excursion.
Skydiving Adventure over Pittsburgh
If you've been “dying” to fly in the face of mortality by jumping out of a plane, there are several southwestern Pennsylvania companies more than happy to encourage you. They offer skydiving for first-timers and experienced skydivers. Tandem dives cost around $165 and accelerated, freefall dives cost about $265.
Hot Air Balloon Adventure over Pittsburgh
If you would rather float among the clouds at a nice, leisurely pace, try a hot air balloon ride. Bird's eye views of the Iron City are available during all seasons, including winter, and usually take between one to two hours. The cost for two people is a steep $450.
Helicopter Adventure Flights over Pittsburgh
Cherokee Helicopter Tours offer several different options for seeing the Pittsburgh skyline by helicopter. Tour packages can include flights over Pittsburgh's most noteworthy architecture and can be custom-designed to incorporate the southwestern Pennsylvania sites that interest you most. Prices and duration of the flights vary.
