Our Sports Superfan Says:
While it is only open for racing for about three months out of the year, Gulfstream Park is still one of the most important racetracks in the United States. The track opened in 1939, and hosts some major races, most notably the Florida Derby, which is one of the precursor races to the Kentucky Derby. The track has been renovated several times, so as to maintain modern standards.
Gulfstream Park is open for business from the beginning of January to the end of March. It is home to half of the Sunshine Millions races (the other half taking place at Santa Anita Park in California), as well as numerous other graded stakes races. It has also hosted the Breeder's Cup races three times. In addition to the track, there is a slots casino and, since 2004, a poker room as well, in addition to high quality restaurants. Furthermore, the track hosts assorted concerts throughout the year, keeping busy even outside the racing season.
Located in Hallandale Beach, Florida, Gulfstream Park is 10 miles south of Fort Lauderdale Airport, and 20 miles north of Miami Airport.
