Our Museum Expert Says:

Experience the magic of 16th century North Italian beauty right on Biscayne Bay! The lavish villa, gardens, and museum of Vizcaya Museum and Gardens are an oasis of antiques and give visitors a sneak peek into the Old Europe.

Inspired by the Villa Rezzonico at Bassano del Grappa, Vizcaya was designed as a winter residence for James Deering. Today, the grounds are a National Historic Landmark and the pride of Miami's Coconut Grove. The Villa is surrounded by formal gardens covering 10 acres right on the Bay, and is rife with statuaries, fountains, and hidden grottoes. The Villa contains over 70 rooms decorated with 16th through early 19th century furnishings and European decorative art. Visitors can take in this beauty on tours of the 35 rooms of the main house available to the public which are offered about every fifteen to thirty minutes. They may also choose to explore these rooms on their own at their leisure. Vizcaya is a dream for those who love European relics. Many of the house's original furnishings are still around including dishes and paintings. There are also early versions of a central vacuum-cleaning system, elevators, and fire sprinklers. Kids will enjoy running around the beautiful seawall area, including the gazebo, and exploring the elaborate gardens. The delightful salads, sandwiches and desserts at the Café only add to the experience at Vizcaya, so stop in for a snack before you go.

If traveling by Metrorail, proceed to the Vizcaya station and cross US 1 on the pedestrian bridge. Continue in the same direction 1 block to South Miami Avenue. Cross SW 32 Road and proceed to the crosswalk. Cross South Miami Avenue to enter Vizcaya.
