Since its inception in 1958, the Museum of Art in Fort Lauderdale has been impressing viewers with its splendid ongoing and changing galleries. Visitors will enjoy an entire wing dedicated to the works of William Glackens, and another dedicated to monthly changing exhibitions. The museum features some of the best modern art around and offers a lovely café wine bar to add to your enjoyment.
The exhibit entitled The Spectacle of Life: The Art of William Glackens, features over 500 works in a variety of media. The collection includes the Philadelphia Landscape from 1893, Glackens' earliest work, as well as White Rose and Other Flowers, his last work, from 1937. Glackens' contemporaries are also featured at the Museum of Art and you'll find a nice collection by artists such as Maurice Prendergast, Ernest Lawson, and John Sloan.
The museum's Store Café & Wine Bar, situated in the lobby, allows you to browse original gift items such as books, art objects, decanters and jewelry, while sipping on wine or champagne.
To get to the Museum of Art from I-95, take the Broward Blvd. and exit east to Andrews Ave. Take Andrews Ave. south to Southwest Second St. Go west (right) at Southwest Second to Brickell Ave. Go south (left) into the Riverfront complex. Follow the road beyond the valet parking area into the self-parking driveway on your right.
