Address:Key Biscayne, Florida
Virginia Key Beach was established in 1945 as the only beach in the Miami area open to African Americans. During this time of racial segregation, the "Colored Beach" as it became known as became a popular spot that represented tolerance and equality.
Today, this Biscayne Bay beach spot is humming with activity. It's prime location in between Key Biscayne and Miami makes it an ideal spot for vacationers who want a bit more quiet than its busier neighboring beaches. Windsurfers and sailor flock to Virginia Key as well as nature lovers and fishermen. Water activities are available and recommended, such as jet skiing, kayaking, snorkeling, and swimming. There are plenty of shady areas for the sun-phobic. Lifeguards are on duty every day. Historic walks are also available.
A trip to Virginia Key Beach would be incomplete without a stop at Jimbo's Place, a fish restaurant, bar, and bait shop located on Duck Lake Road. Take a walk on the marina there and enjoy the fresh bay breezes!
