Fort Myers Beach on the Gulf of Mexico on Estero Island in southwestern Florida used to be accessible exclusively by boat, and it somehow still maintains the atmosphere of being a little hideaway. It's quiet and slower paced than most beaches. Known as the world's safest beach for its softly sloping dunes and golden sandbars, it has incredible blue water and a special, invigorating vibe. Fort Myers Beach is just one of many beaches making up the Beaches of Fort Myers and Sanibel, but it's a unique place, set apart from the rest by its natural beauty, and endless range of activities. A great way to take it all in, is on the daily luxury tours going along the Calooshahatchee River, where you'll get a chance to see the stunning creatures of the region, in the water, on the land and in the air, living amongst the beautiful scenery, complete with Spanish moss and old oaks.
In addition to being famed for great water sports, tropical beauty and incredible weather, Fort Myers Beach is known the world over for its sand. The sparkling white sand is an artist's medium here on Fort Myers Beach, and draws about 65,000 visitors, once a year, for the annual American Sandsculpting Championship Festival, held every November on the beaches located between the Outrigger Resorts and the Holiday Inn beach. Watching the transformation of a sandy beach into castles, figures and architectural masterpieces by masters from all corners of the world is an amazing sight, and you'll be completely spellbound watching them work...
There is great scuba, surf, and deep-sea fishing for those looking for some action. For those who want to bring their own boat, there is the full-service Fort Myers Marina, and with the easy currents here conducive to the easy maneuvering and parking of boats. For boaters looking to stay docked for the night, there are full facilities on the Marina, with restaurants, shopping, and hotels located nearby. It's definitely worth making a reservation for boat parking in advance, because the spots can get snatched up pretty quickly. There are dozens of boat rentals around the beach, and organized trips out on the water for diving, scuba, and snorkeling, which are definitely worth considering. For a nice day out fishing off the shore, Fort Myers Beach Fishing Pier at Lynn Hall Memorial Park is the place. It's a top-notch place to cast a line and catch some impressive fish, as well as a fun gathering spot and lookout point.
There are lots of little parks along the beach offering both access to the water and lots of other activities to keep the youngest members of the family happy. Lynn Hall Memorial Park is great for the whole family, with lifeguards, swimming, beaching, the fishing pier, playgrounds, picnic areas, and plenty of shops and restaurants just a couple of minutes away. If you go a little bit north from there, you'll get to Bowditch Point Regional Park, where you'll enjoy an natural and breathtaking view of electrifying sunsets from clean white sandy beaches. There are restrooms, bars, and restaurants not far from the beach. There's parking everywhere, but sometimes you'll have to pay for it. There's also a trolley service around the area starting in Main Street Park.
Fort Myers Beach has amazing weather that stays around 70 degrees all year-round. There are plenty of places to stay while there, both on the beach itself and in surrounding Estero, which has a big selection of hotels, motels, condos and beach cottages. It's a really special place, unique in its beauty and in the feeling it leaves you with after a few days of rest and relaxation on its glowing, white sandy beach.
