Teams from all four major U.S. sports are based out of the Miami metropolitan area in southern Florida. The ever-popular Dolphins fill seats with football fans in the aptly-named Dolphin Stadium, along with the area's Major League Baseball franchise, the Marlins. Dolphin Stadium hosts college football's Orange Bowl each year since the mid-1990s, and has also hosted the Super Bowl 10 times, more than any other stadium in the U.S. Shaquille O' Neal and Dwayne Wade have been leading the Miami Heat into NBA championship contention for the past couple of years, while the Panthers NHL franchise proves that even in tropical, sunny Florida, there are die-hard hockey fans.
The sunny skies and sandy beaches make for perfect AVP volleyball event conditions. The ATP and WTA pro tennis tours also make stops in southern Florida in the early spring. Finally, thoroughbred horseracing is popular in this region too, with a few racetracks dotted around southern Florida.
