Things to do / Travel Guide
With so much varied coastline, South Florida has plenty of places to snorkel, like its many state beach parks. Snorkeling equipment is available to rent at some places, but it usually pays to buy your own snorkeling gear.
Although snorkeling is traditionally done via beach access, there are boat-access opportunities as well. The best snorkeling is in the Keys, with its many shallow beach areas and spectacular living coral reef system. The coral reef has an abundance of colorful and interesting marine life to view.
- Dry Tortugas National Park - About 70 miles beyond Key West, this coral island is considered one of the best snorkeling sites in the entire United States.
This large area features shallow water and colorful sea life, but it is only accessible by boat or seaplane.
