Restaurants around Miami, Florida
There are thousands of restaurants in the greater Miami area alone, so you have a tremendous choice of places to dine in South Florida. Until the early 1990s, there was no real unique or special Floridian cuisine. Fine dining, other than at some hotels, was not very common in the region. Now, with the resurgence of Miami Beach, there is a local style of cuisine called New World cuisine, also called “fusion” or “Floribbean.”
There has long been a presence of Caribbean and Latin American, especially Cuban, food in Miami. New World took this food style and fused it with European cooking and presentation techniques. Of course, there are still plenty of traditional Cuban, Latin American, and Caribbean restaurants to sample as well.
Restaurants around Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, and Palm Beach, Florida
You can also find a good amount of better cuisine and dining in coastal Fort Lauderdale and in Boca Raton. If you crave haute cuisine, one of the upscale eateries in Palm Beach is probably your best bet.
The most prevalent type of food in the region is seafood. There are some very famous crab houses in South Florida. There are some vegetarian and health food-oriented restaurants, but you have to hunt for them. Because of the large Jewish community, there are many kosher and kosher-style delis and restaurants, especially in Boca Raton, Sunrise, Hollywood, and North Miami Beach. A special treat for visitors from the northeast U.S. is the presence of real diners in the greater Fort Lauderdale area.
Many restaurants offer discounts for early dinners (the Early Bird specials), so if you want to try and save some money, it never hurts to ask about them.
