Things to do / Travel Guide
Everglades City, Florida
A major hub for all sorts of activities is Everglades City, a short drive south of the Tamiami Trail, near the Gulf Coast. In Everglades City you can take an airboat tour (those special swamp skimmer boats with the giant fan on the back), rent a canoe and go paddling, and stay in a quaint, pleasant bed and breakfast establishment (B&B). Also along the Tamiami Trail is the Miccosukee Indian Village, where you can learn about Native American life and even get to see one of their unique sports - alligator wrestling!
Butterfly World in Fort Lauderdale, Florida
A nice family attraction in the Fort Lauderdale area is the unique Butterfly World, which is basically a butterfly zoo. It is located in the town of Coconut Creek in north Broward County. At Butterfly World you can see a large variety of butterflies inside enclosed habitats, like at a bird aviary. There is also a butterfly educational center.
Davie, Florida
In west Broward, there is the town of Davie, which is a fully “Western-themed” town (as in cowboys and horses). Davie is a haven for all things Western, including horseback riding. The town also features the Davie Rodeo Arena, with authentic rodeo shows and competitions.
