Flying to Miami and Key West, Florida
Four major commercial airports serve the South Florida region: Miami International, Fort Lauderdale International, Palm Beach International, and Southwest Florida International Airport (Fort Myers). The busiest airport by far is Miami International, which serves as one of the U.S.'s main gateways to Latin America. Both the Miami and Palm Beach airports are far from the urban centers. Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach are probably better arrival options if you're not staying in the Miami area. If you are going to base your trip on South Florida's Gulf Coast, then the airport by Fort Myers might serve you best.
Driving to Miami and Key West, Florida
The main highway connecting South Florida to the rest of the state and the nation is Interstate 95, which continues all the way up the East Coast to the Canadian border. It is this artery that the overwhelming majority of automobile-bound visitors take to South Florida.
Greyhound Busses to Miami and Key West, Florida
There is Greyhound bus service from most points up north and beyond to South Florida. There is also Amtrak rail service from major nearby cities, like Atlanta, Georgia, and from cities along the U.S. northeast corridor. It should be noted, however, that train service to South Florida is spotty.
Taking a Boat to Miami and Key West, Florida
The ports of Miami and Fort Lauderdale are the busiest cruise ship ports in the world. Large, modern cruise ships dock here, as this is the main departure point for Caribbean cruises and to ports of call worldwide.
South Florida has a plethora of marinas along its coastline; so many more well-off visitors are able to get here by private boat or yacht.
