Southern Florida Fishing Spots

South Florida is a very popular region for travelers looking to take a fishing trip. Besides the abundance of fishing boats, there are literally hundreds of places to fish from, with the many bridges, beaches, bays, piers, and jetties throughout the region. Although there is some freshwater fishing available in the region's many canals, the most popular fishing by far is saltwater fishing. Big game fishing and deep-sea fishing are also available via chartered boat.

Be aware that there are fishing regulations and catch limits in Florida. Typically, you'll get to keep half of your total catch, while the ship gets the other half.

Fishing in Miami

Chartered fishing boats are available in many places along the Gold Coast, the Miami coastal area, and the Keys. In the Keys, a more intimate type of boat fishing is available, called backcountry fishing. This is done on a small skiff type of boat, with a guide and two to three people. If you prefer company to the solitude of a private fishing charter, go on a full-day or half-day party cruise, which also happens to be much cheaper. Most people find these fishing party charters to be a bargain, but bait and equipment will cost extra.

Fishing in the Florida Keys

Fishing boats are available at the many marinas in the region including Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Key Biscayne, Key Largo, and Key West. A popular spot for both on-shore fishing and charter boat fishing is Haulover Beach Park in Miami Beach. You can also choose to fish from one of the many piers in the Miami Beach, Deerfield Beach, and Naples areas.
