Costs for Key West, Ft. Lauderdale, Miami Beach, Southern Florida

Things to do / Travel Guide

Many of the costs of visiting South Florida will be determined by your destination and the time of year you visit. During the high season, from December-March, prices are higher, especially for lodging and car rentals. Some attractions also have higher prices at this time. Also, the closer you stay to the beach, the more your lodging will cost. The lodging and car rental market are very competitive. Gas prices in South Florida are usually on par or even less than the national average.

There are many beautiful, but pricey, waterfront resort hotels along the Atlantic Coast in this region, including The Breakers in Palm Beach and the Fontainebleau in Miami Beach. One way to save some money on your visit to South Florida is to stay in what's called an “extended stay” motel. These properties are usually located inland and offer cooking facilities. There are also condo rentals available. While there are plenty of exquisite dining establishments throughout the region that cater to every taste, the inland eateries are more affordable than the ones in the more-frequented tourist areas.

Except for some of the beachfront parks, beach access is free. Parking, however, is not. On some days, many museums and other attractions in South Florida offer free admission, so it's definitely worth your while to check with the particular venue before you go visit. On the flip side, if you want to participate in the buzzing nightlife scene at the trendy clubs along South Beach in Miami Beach, you'll have to shell out some serious green.
