Shoot the whitewater rapids of the Shenandoah River. Challenge the 6 miles of Class I-III rapids, mild whitewater makes this perfect for a family adventure set amidst the picturesque Blue Ridge Mountains. This section, Shenandoah Staircase to Potomac, passes through Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness Area and Harpers Ferry National Historic Park and is located in eastern West Virginia, south-west of Harpers Ferry, 15 miles from I-81.

Practical Info: Rafting season is open approximately from April to October, with whitewater rafting trips that can be completed in a half day. The river is suitable for paddle rafts, and paddle/oar rafts. Portage may be required.

Useful Tips: Guides are optional, although permits may be required for private trips. Outfitters on the Shenandoah River offer trips suitable for families.
