Explore the largest forest in California. See the largest identified volcano within California and one of the most unique geologic features in North America!
With five wilderness areas, hundreds of mountain lakes and 6,278 miles of streams and rivers, Shasta-Trinity National Forest is a naturalist's paradise. Forest visitors are invited to hike a 154 mile section of the Pacific Crest Trail which runs across the forest or drive the Trinity Heritage and the Trinity River Scenic Byways. Shasta Lake's 365 miles of shoreline is perfect for explorers and boaters alike, and Little Mt. Hoffman offers a spectacular view of Mt. Shasta, Mt. Lassen, Mt. McLoughlin and a variety of other interesting landforms.
Shasta-Trinity National Forest offers plenty of hiking, backpacking, mountain climbing, horseback riding, camping, sightseeing, downhill skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling and the large lakes and reservoirs in the area are great for boating and fishing for trout, salmon and steelhead. Don't miss the most diverse and least visited of the five volcanic centers in California, the Medicine Lake Highlands Volcanic Area (a portion of which is on the Shasta-Trinity National Forest), with its volcanic formations such as the glass and lava flows, pumice deposits, lava tubes, cinder cones, craters, and faults.
The Shasta-Trinity National Forest is located in north-central California and headquartered in the city of Redding. Interstate 5 runs north-south through the Forest.
