Situated in the Sierra Nevada, just south of the Cascade Range, Plumas National Forest offers the scenic vistas and wilderness solitude you'll remember for years to come. The forest, covering over a million acres, draws outdoor enthusiasts year-round to its tree covered mountains, high alpine lakes, clear running streams, deep canyons, rich mountain valleys, meadows and lofty peaks. The Forest's Feather Falls Scenic Area has spectacular granite domes and picturesque waterfalls and a National Recreation Trail which leads to the 640 foot high Feather River Falls. There are 75 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail which cross the Plumas and 25 natural lakes and ponds connected by a well- maintained trail system.
Visitors to Plumas National Forest can enjoy mountain biking, fishing, hiking, whitewater rafting and backpacking as well as a drive on the Feather River Scenic Byway which offers spectacular views and countless points of cultural, geologic and historical interest. If you'd like to extend your stay at the forest, choose between a lakeside campground or a remote mountain stream hideouts for a night under the stars. Downhill skiing at Plumas Eureka State Park is popular, as is cross-country skiing, and many areas are designated for snowmobiling. The Plumas National Forest is located in Northern California between the Sierra Nevada and the Cascade Ranges. California Highways 89 and 70 both bisect the forest.
