Lake Shasta - California

Things to do / Travel Guide

Our Nature Nut Says:

Plan a vacation at the third largest lake in California! With spectacular mountain vistas and endless water sports and recreation, this lake resort promises fun and long lasting memories for the entire family.

Lake Shasta was originally formed by the damming of 3 rivers and several smaller tributaries. It boasts 365 miles of mountainous shoreline, covered with tall evergreen trees and manzanita - and that's just the beginning. Water activities such as boating, water skiing, and house boating are quite popular here. Those who fancy fishing will marvel at the catches of carp, chinook salmon, black fish, channel squawfish, Sacramento squawfish, and more. Shasta-Trinity national forest has some excellent bike trails and there are many great hiking trails here too if you prefer to keep your feet on the ground. While here, don't forget to check out Shasta Caverns, a great place to spend a day exploring amongst the limestone. Lake Shasta is also one of the few lakes in California where visitors are allowed to camp along the shore and build a campfire (with a permit of course) which is great for outdoorsy-types. Cottages are available for rental and there are many other great options for lodging, so pack your things and head on over to the majestic and fun-filled Lake Shasta!
