Golf Courses near Crater Lake, Mt. Shasta, California and Oregon Cascades

Things to do / Travel Guide

The out-of-the-way wilderness of the southern Cascades region keeps many people away, which is reason enough to go out of your way to golf here. It ain't fancy, but what you'll find is gorgeous and thrilling. Here are some examples.

About a decade ago, Golf Magazine ranked Eagle Point among "The Top Ten Public Access Courses," and it's still a prime destination if you're in the region. You'll have perfect views of volcanic peaks, as well as the snow-peaked Mt. McLoughlin. The rough is quite difficult and there's plenty of sand for your ball to fall into, or to just serve an optical illusion as you try to judge distances.
The front nine is fairly flat, while the back nine has many elevation changes. Not easy, but certainly satisfying.

Another fun destination is the Running Y Ranch where you'll feel like you've fallen into the Wild West as soon as you step into the clubhouse - the theme continues throughout the course. This is also the only golf course in Oregon designed by Arnold Palmer, so you'll be sure to notice his trademark curvy, yet friendly fairways. Your round will take you through wetlands, canyons, and open plains. Cowboys and cowgirls of all golfing abilities will have a fine time here. Yee haa!
