Our Botanical Gardens Expert Says:
Enjoy family fun at this 127-acre botanical garden, also famous as a backdrop for countless Hollywood flicks. With a variety of ornamental plants, flowers, peacocks, and more than 200 species of other birds, the Arboretum of Los Angeles is rich with nature and has something for everyone to enjoy. The arboretum is organized by plant regional origin, such as Australia, Africa, South America and North America, and there's a paved road that runs throughout. In addition to spectacular flora, there are resident peafowl that live here too. Every third Sunday of the month, families can enjoy picnicking on the grounds. The special programs for children here include Plants in Our World and Early California History tours, as well as summer family workshops, The Music Tree, and Kids Art. There are classes for moms and dads too, such as Art in the Garden, Cooking in the Garden, and Botanical Illustration. There is a tram here that circles the grounds every 30 minutes, and the path is also open to pedestrians, as well as peacocks, geese and ducks, so there is much to enjoy.
Getting here is simple. Take the 210 heading east, exit at Baldwin and turn right, southwards. Drive for a quarter of a mile and the Arboretum will be on your right.
