Our Sports Superfan Says:

One of the most architecturally unique ballparks in Major League Baseball, PETCO Park has been getting rave reviews since it opened in 2004. The home of the San Diego Padres is built into the surrounding buildings, most notably the Western Metal Supply Company's red brick warehouse down the left field line, originally scheduled to be demolished, but now a big part of the park's character, with seats on the roof, a concession store, restaurant, and luxury suites.

In addition to the warehouse, PETCO Park has a grassy area beyond the outfield that is open to fans for $5 a game and free during non-game days. The seats at the stadium are oriented to give fans a beautiful view of San Diego Bay and the downtown skyline.

The Padres have made the playoffs twice since PETCO opened, but lost in the first round both times. PETCO was also the home of the semifinals and finals of the World Baseball Classic in 2005. The USA Rugby Union has begun hosting an international tournament at PETCO Park as of 2007, and the park has seen several concerts and other one-time events in its brief history.

Tours of the stadium are available for individuals and small groups every day but Monday at 10:30, 12:30, and 2:30. Take note, however, that there are no 2:30 tours before home night games, and no tours at all when there is a day game at home. Private tours are available for groups of more than 25, but must be scheduled 10 business days in advance.

PETCO Park is located in downtown San Diego, across from the Convention Center, and is reachable via mass transit on the Orange and Blue trolley lines, as well as a special Red Line the day of games. There are also six bus routes that will take you to the stadium (3, 4, 5, 11, 901, and 929).
