Our Sports Superfan Says:

The oldest harness racetrack in southern California, Los Alamitos Race Course is still home to plenty of good-quality racing throughout the year. Best known for Quarter Horses, the track also features Arabian and thoroughbred racing, four days a week (Thursday-Sunday) throughout the year.

Although the track does not necessarily attract superstar horses, there are still some serious purses being awarded. The Los Alamitos Millions, a race for two-year-olds, is the most expensive horse race in California. There are several other high-stakes races here, with late July's California Champions Night one of the most important of the year. Overall, race purses at Los Alamitos total over $20 million every year.

Opening in 1947 on a ranch, Los Alamitos is now located on the border of Cypress and Los Alamitos, California, about 25 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles
