Our Show & Concert Fan Says:
You may recognize this gigantic indoor amphitheater from such events as the MTV Movie Awards or the Teen Choice Awards. The Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal City Walk is the third largest theater in California. It was built in 1972 as an outdoor theater but in 1982 was converted to an indoor theater (that no one at the time approved was happy about). The theater was known as the Universal Amphitheatre until 2005 when the Gibson Guitar Corporation renamed the theater to the Gibson Amphitheatre.
The Gibson Amphitheatre is a popular place to hold major events as well as host musical performances. There have been various musical superstars take the stage at the Gibson Amphitheatre, including Sting, Madonna, Elton John, David Bowie, John Denver, Frank Sinatra, Ozzy Osbourne, Bette Midler, Frank Zappa, and Eric Clapton, among many other popular names in the rock n' roll, pop, reggae, and classical music industries.
The Gibson Amphitheatre holds about 6,000 people and because of Gibson Guitar Corporations involvement, now boasts a guitar-themed décor, a lighting upgrade, and a guitar garden, featuring illuminated sculptures of guitars. The Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal City Walk is located at 100 Universal City Plaza in Universal City, California.
