Our Museum Expert Says:

Come learn more about American Jewish life! From the biblical origins to traditions and life in America, the Skirball Cultural Center is a Jewish treasure and a celebration of Jewish history.

The Skirball's main exhibits tell the story of the journey of the Jewish people through the ages, with an emphasis on U.S. Jewry. In "Visions and Values: Jewish life from antiquity to America," the history, accomplishments and values of the Jewish people spanning over 4,000 years are chronicled. Visitors can travel through the lands where Jews have lived through themes like Beginnings, Journeys, Holidays, Lifecycle, the Holocaust and Israel. The Archaeology Discovery Center invites visitors to take part in an archeological dig and has actual objects on loan from Israel. The Noah's Ark exhibit is popular with kids and adults alike; there's a hands-on gallery where visitors can sail in a gigantic wooden ark, surrounded by hundreds of handcrafted, fanciful animals made from recycled materials ranging from life-size elephants and giraffes to snakes, hedgehogs, and flamingos. The museum also offers gallery tours and walkthroughs free with exhibition admission, along with many events held here throughout the year, such as Jewish folk music festivals. Should you care for a nosh the Zeidler's Café offers fresh fish, salads, pasta, pizza and gourmet sandwiches or enjoy a bite from Zeidler's Cart.

To get here, take the Metro Rapid Bus #761.

Its mission is to explore the connections between four thousand years of Jewish heritage and the vitality of American democratic ideals.
