Visit the oldest scientific institution in Southern California! Explore the geology, plants, and animals of Southern and Baja California, and enjoy hands-on fun at the San Diego Natural History Museum.
The San Diego Natural History Museum building has lovely Spanish Colonial-inspired architecture and a bronze "crack" in the floor of the atrium - a reproduction of the San Andreas Fault. Kids will love the live snakes, tarantulas, and turtles who call the museum home. Anther great exhibit here is Natural Treasures Past & Present which has preserved oar fish and fossils, as well as live critters. There is also a 300-seat large-format movie theater to enjoy when you want to rest your feet. The Museum also has free programs like Wahoo! Wacky Science Sundays with Ms. Frizzle and The Magic School Bus.
To get here from downtown, take any outbound #7 bus. The bus will travel north on Park Blvd, and the nearest stop to the museum is at the pedestrian overpass which crosses over Park Blvd. An earlier stop at the Rose Garden is also close. So clear a full morning or afternoon, and drop by for an unforgettable visit at the San Diego Natural History Museum.
