Let your imagination soar at the San Diego Aerospace Museum, where visitors can explore a chronological tribute to the history of flight and be inspired by the relics of one of mankind's greatest achievements. Dedicated to the preservation of significant artifacts, presentation of dynamic exhibits and commemoration of the men and women who forged aerospace history, the museum includes a model of the Montgolfier brothers' hot air balloon, an extensive collection of mint-condition aircraft that follow the advancement of aviation and space technology over the years, and the only GPS satellite on display in a museum. If you visit the museum with a group, docent-guided tours give insight into the characters, aircraft and spacecraft on display, and time should be set aside for experiencing the museum's hands-on exhibits.
The San Diego Aerospace Museum caters to the young and young at heart with its "Family Days" program that offers building activities, take-home projects, and hands on learning about topics that adults and kids can explore together. "Family Days" are held the second Saturday of every month at 12.30pm, 1:30pm and 2:30pm and programs last 45 minutes.
The building that houses the San Diego Aerospace Museum was originally built for the California Pacific International Exposition of 1935-36 and served as the hall for the Transportation Exhibition, showcasing Ford Motor Company's 1935 line of cars and products. Ford donated the striking Moderne building to the City of San Diego when the exhibition was finished, and it is one of the last examples of this historical style in existence today.
