Learn about the rich and diverse history of San Diego! With great permanent and changing exhibits, as well as national and international traveling shows, the Museum of San Diego History is sure to please everyone from the history buffs to the just curious.
The Museum of San Diego History is a timeline of artifacts and exhibits from the inception of California's statehood in 1850 to the present. Located in Balboa Park, the Museum is home to an archive of over 2 million photographs of or about San Diego, and boasts unique exhibits on local architecture and the history of San Diego as a film location. Permanent collections here include local folk art, textiles and clothing, tools, transportation, and toys. Kids can explore the history of Balboa Park through the interactive children's exhibit, Romp, and everyone will enjoy the public lectures, workshops, and educational programs offered in the museum's 100-seat Thornton Theater. No need to leave empty-handed either, as the gift shop is filled with local art and great books on the City.
To get here, take Highway 163 to Park Blvd. Turn left on Park, use parking lots near the Natural History Museum and Ruben H. Fleet Science Center.
