Come explore the largest encyclopedic museum west of Chicago! From African, Chinese and Egyptian art to modern art, as well as photography and prints, this diverse museum reflects the many cultural communities of California and the world.
The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) complex was designed by three very different architects over a span of 30 years, and houses more than 250,000 works spanning the history of art from ancient times to the present. Popular works here include that of artists such as Degas, Rembrandt, Hockney and Monet, as well as Japanese Edo paintings, works by Matisse, Magritte, and several Dada artists.
The free guided tours cover the highlights, but make sure you get some time in at the other fantastic exhibits here. Besides art exhibits the museum has film, concert series and art classes available throughout the year, as well as plenty of kid-oriented events such as Family Sundays and the Boone Children's Gallery. The Pentimento offers dining and a full bar, and the Plaza Café is also great for a quick bite with both indoor and outdoor seating.
The LACMA is located on Wilshire Boulevard between Fairfax and Curson Avenues, midway between Downtown Los Angeles and Santa Monica.
