If you are looking for a Nevada-style casino on the California coast between Los Angeles and San Francisco – you have found it. The Chumash Indians have a compact that allows them to operate the only tribal casino in Santa Barbara County, and the only one in that 400 mile stretch of coast. The Chumash Casino Resort is more than just a huge casino. If you were looking for a huge casino, then Chumash certainly qualifies with over 2000 slots and close to 50 table games and daily poker tournaments. All 24/7, of course. As the name implies, the place is also a resort – an AAA Four Diamond Resort. So, expect to plan some time in the spa, the pool and touring the Santa Ynez Valley. If you schedule your stopover well, you may just luck out with some top-name entertainment. Any day of the week (and almost any time of day), enjoy dining ranging from steak and seafood to burgers and fries in the Chumash Café. Or just grab the buffet for lunch or dinner. Stay a week and watch the buffet change from Mexican to Italian to Sushi, with a few other cuisines in the middle.
Sometimes incorrectly referred to as the Cachuma Casino in Santa Barbara, because of its proximity to Lake Cachuma, the Chumash Casino is actually located in Santa Ynez a five minute drive from Solvang and a 30 mile drive from Santa Barbara. Visitors driving the Pacific Coast Highway will head inland to Solvang at the California Highway 1 and US-101 junction. The resort is a good stopping point between the Bay Area and Los Angeles – just make sure not to gamble away your gas money.
