Our Beach Bum Says:

A popular destination for locals and tourists for decades, San Clemente is a high energy beach with old-fashioned style and an easy-going attitude, all in one. Located between Los Angeles and San Diego, over two million vacationers and visitors come to San Clemente each year, with a particular emphasis on surfers and families. But besides surfing and sand castle building, visitors to San Clemente have plenty of choices for fun. Choose from skin diving for lobsters or hiking along the bluff trails or enjoy a picnic on the landscaped blufftop. Or perhaps plain old swimming is more your cup of tea? Whatever it is, the umbrella, surfboard and bodyboard rentals available within walking distance plus the nearby concession stands will definitely make your day on the beach even more enjoyable. But wait, there's more! The 1,200 foot long pier with fantastic views of coastal bluffs is made for fishing. There's a bait and tackle shop at the end of the pier plus a full service restaurant and bar at the base. If you're visiting in July, don't miss the San Clemente Ocean Festival, also at the base of the pier, on the third weekend of the month, for lifeguard competitions, kids' pavilion, fishing derby, rubber duck race, sand castle contest, art show and a beach blanket barbecue and concert. Last but not least, San Clemente also offers many restaurants, hotels and shops when you need a break from the sand and surf.
