Our Beach Bum Says:

You'll have no trouble picking an activity at Point Dume State Beach. From hiking, to rock climbing, to swimming, to surfing – the possibilities are endless!

Point Dume State Beach is a family-friendly beach to the max. There are lifeguards on duty during daylight hours, picnic areas, bathrooms and showers, diving and snorkeling, fishing, surfing, swimming, and more! And that's not even to mention all the great, clean sand – perfect for building sandcastles, playing volleyball, going for jogs, and for just lounging around!

Point Dume State Beach is named for the Point Dume bluff which is located on the northern end of the Santa Monica Bay. It's great for rock climbers and those who make it to top will be awarded with fantastic views of the area – on the beach and of the surrounding mountains and islands. From December through May you may even see some whales during their migration! You may recognize Point Dume from The Planet of the Apes.

Point Dume State Beach is located off of the Pacific Coast Highway. Turn off at Westward Beach Road and head toward the ocean! The parking can be pricey, but if you head out to the Zuma section of the beach (a.k.a. Free Zuma) then you can score some free parking!
