California's Doheny State Beach has over a mile of bright, white, sandy beaches, along with some of the warmest water and best swimming in California, drawing people to return and enjoy year after year. The 62-acre beach is actually two parks in one, with camping in the southern area and day use in the northern area. There's a 5-acre lawn with picnic facilities, and volleyball courts to enjoy when you're not digging in the sand or indulging in the warm waters. Kids will have plenty of tide-pool exploring to do here during low tide and, if they need a change of scene, the Visitors Center has got aquariums and a simulated tide pool to check out, as well. The ample amenities here include plenty of restrooms, food concessions, showers, and lots of parking, making this beach even more comfy and accessible for visitors with kids. Surfing is popular at Doheny as well, but is restricted to the north end of the beach.
A vacation at Doheny State is a great opportunity to gather the whole family and enjoy a barbeque or family picnic in the beautiful grass lawns. There are tables and grills, and alcohol, unlike on many other beaches, is allowed. Free to enjoy - in moderation, of course!
The rocky area at the beach's western end also attracts divers and fishermen to catch their dinner. And if you'd like to spend the night at Doheny, you're really in for a treat! The Beach has been named the county's "Best Camping Site" time and time again, because you just can't beat a campfire on a cool Southern California night!
