Whether you're a beach volleyball fanatic or just seeking the perfect family outing, look no further than San Diego's magnificent Coronado Beach. This wide and sparklingly clean beach has got something for everyone and is popular with both locals and tourists alike. Coronado Beach is perfect for that classic lazy weekend on the beach and watching the sun set over the Pacific. Active beach goers can enjoy the great volleyball, tide pool exploration, and riding along the bike path, which is just south of the landmark Hotel Del Coronado. If visiting with kids, there's plenty of wide open space for playing catch and running through the sand. There are several parks here to enjoy as well: Glorietta Bay Park has got a boat ramp, a children's area and a mini-sand beach and Spreckels Park often hosts art and craft fairs on weekends and holidays—great for a break from the sand and sun. Of the three distinct beach zones here, North Beach is the place for surfing and is a great hangout for dogs too. The dozen fire rings by the dunes are just right for a memorable meal and for storytelling by the fire. Central Beach is typically the most crowded but also the most romantic, with the famous old hotel nearby and drinks being served on the boardwalk. Finally, the Shores, south of the Hotel Del Coronado offers perfect long walks and bodyboarding. All the beach areas have lifeguards on duty. Note that parking along Ocean Boulevard fills up fast on busy days, so come early or be prepared for a hike (there's also a lot of sand to cross from the car to the Ocean so, parents with toddlers should bring a stroller!). Lastly, don't forget to check out the restaurants and shops, and if you're not already staying at the Hotel Del Coronado, do drop by at sunset for drinks on the water!
